Dr Wikus Erasmus
Head of Department - Applied Management and Information Technology
Bio
Wikus leads the Applied Management and Information Technology department at Auckland International Campus. An academic leader with more than 15 years in tertiary education, Wikus brings expertise in curriculum development, NZQA quality assurance, staff leadership and industry-aligned programme delivery.
Before joining AIC, Wikus led IT programmes from diploma to master's level at a private tertiary provider, including redeveloping assessment practice and restructuring postgraduate qualifications through NZQA approval processes. Wikus has also served as an external NZQA monitor.
Previously, Wikus spent 13 years at the University of Johannesburg as Senior Lecturer and Deputy Academic Head of Applied Information Systems, supervising doctoral and master's research and leading programme development and review. Wikus's early career was in information systems project management and IT governance in industry.
Wikus's research focuses on information systems project management from a socio-technical perspective, with a current interest in generative AI in business processes and human–AI collaboration. Wikus maintains active industry links through programme advisory panels, TechNZ and the Association for Information Systems.
Wikus holds a PhD in Information Technology Management, a Master of Commerce in Business Management, a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Strategic Management and a Bachelor of Commerce in Informatics, all from the University of Johannesburg.
